I’m happy to announce the launch of our Best of the New mobile app, which is now available for download in the Apple App Store, the Android Market, and the Amazon Appstore. The “Best of the New” is an annual feature of the Boston Globe Magazine, with expert picks for food, shopping and diversions in the Boston area, as well as the top new people and ideas. The app guides you through this list of favorite places and should serve as a valuable tool for locals and tourists alike.      We teamed up with Toura to use their app-building platform.  This made it easy to do all the development and design in-house. On the Bar app helps users locate their favorite bartenders

Boston Deals now on your iPhone

Boston Deals for the iPhone launched this week, the first mobile app for Boston.com’s daily deals site.

The app allows you to:

- Find deals in and around the Boston area.
- Receive deal notifications on your phone.
- Purchase deals directly from your phone.
- Use Google maps (including street views) to view deals by location.

The Boston Deals app was built by Group Commerce, a social group-buying platform that recently acquired mobile developer Socialight.

The Boston Deals site originally launched in May, and is also available on the mobile web. An app for Android smartphones will be released later this fall.
